Technical Analysis

The WPVR WordPress plugin before version 9.0.3 contains a stored XSS vulnerability (CWE-79) due to improper sanitization and escaping of tour hotspot content. Users with Contributor role or above can inject malicious JavaScript code that is stored and later executed in the context of any user viewing the affected tour pages. This vulnerability affects versions >=8.5.49 and <9.0.3.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation allows an attacker with Contributor or higher privileges to execute arbitrary JavaScript in the browsers of users viewing the affected tours. This can lead to session hijacking, defacement, or other malicious actions performed in the context of the victim's browser session.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade WPVR to version 9.0.3 or later where this vulnerability is fixed. Since the affected versions are explicitly stated, applying the official update is the recommended remediation. No alternative mitigations are provided in the data.
