Published: 10/21/2026 (10/21/2026, 17:54:16 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: bpampuch
Product: pdfmake

Description

pdfmake versions 0.3.8 through 0.3.11 have a vulnerability where the setLocalAccessPolicy() restriction is not enforced on images referenced inside SVG content. This allows attackers to embed SVG images with href attributes pointing to local file paths, potentially exposing restricted local file contents in generated PDFs.

Technical Analysis

The vulnerability in pdfmake (versions >=0.3.8 and <0.3.12) arises because the setLocalAccessPolicy() function does not apply its restrictions to images embedded within SVG content. An attacker who can supply a document definition can craft an SVG image with an href attribute referencing a local file path. This causes the contents of the restricted local file to be embedded in the generated PDF, effectively bypassing local file access restrictions.

Potential Impact

An attacker can read local files that should be blocked by the setLocalAccessPolicy() restriction by embedding SVG images referencing those files. This leads to unauthorized disclosure of local file contents via the generated PDF document. The CVSS 4.0 score of 6.9 (medium severity) reflects the network attack vector with low complexity and no privileges or user interaction required.

Mitigation Recommendations

A fixed version of pdfmake is available starting from version 0.3.12 that properly enforces setLocalAccessPolicy() restrictions on images inside SVG content. Users should upgrade to version 0.3.12 or later to remediate this vulnerability. No other mitigation is indicated.
