CVE-2026-114510: CWE-116: Improper Encoding or Escaping of Output in stevereiner flexible-graphrag
Description
Flexible GraphRAG versions from 0.6.0 up to but not including 0.8.2 contain an improper encoding vulnerability in the _escape() helper function. This flaw allows crafted input to inject malicious Cypher clauses that can modify or delete graph data and potentially disclose sensitive information when query results are surfaced. The vulnerability arises from incorrect escaping order and unsafe insertion of dynamic identifiers into Cypher queries. The issue is fixed in version 0.8.2.

Technical Analysis
Flexible GraphRAG is a Python framework for graph and retrieval-augmented generation applications. Versions >=0.6.0 and <0.8.2 have a vulnerability in the _escape() helper function located in flexible-graphrag/langchain/graph/pg_store_adapters/falkordb_adapter.py. The function escapes quotes before backslashes, which allows escape sequences to be doubled and quotes to terminate strings early. When configured with GRAPH_BACKEND=langchain and GRAPH_DB=falkordb, attacker-controlled document content can lead to injection of Cypher clauses that modify or delete graph data. Additionally, dynamic node and relationship type identifiers are inserted into backtick-quoted query positions without safe parameterization, increasing injection risk. The LlamaIndex FalkorDB store is not affected. This vulnerability is addressed in version 0.8.2.
Potential Impact
Successful exploitation allows an attacker to inject Cypher queries that can modify or delete graph data, leading to data integrity loss. Furthermore, if the application surfaces query results to users or language models, sensitive graph data may be disclosed. The vulnerability affects confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the graph database when using the specified configurations.
Mitigation Recommendations
Upgrade Flexible GraphRAG to version 0.8.2 or later, where this vulnerability is fixed. No other mitigation is specified or required according to the available data.
