Vendor/Project: getgrav
Product: grav

Description

Grav versions from 2.0.0 up to but not including 2.2.5 contain an information disclosure vulnerability. This flaw allows page authors to capture visitors' HTTP Basic authentication credentials by embedding them in Twig page content. Specifically, authors can print the request URI object, which includes PHP_AUTH_USER and PHP_AUTH_PW, inside an inline style background image, potentially exfiltrating administrator credentials to an external host.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-114657 is an information disclosure vulnerability in Grav CMS versions >=2.0.0 and <2.2.5. The vulnerability arises because page authors can include the request URI object in Twig templates. This object embeds HTTP Basic authentication credentials (PHP_AUTH_USER and PHP_AUTH_PW). By printing this object inside an inline style background image, authors can exfiltrate sensitive administrator credentials to external hosts, exposing them to unauthorized actors.

Potential Impact

The vulnerability allows unauthorized actors to obtain HTTP Basic authentication credentials of administrators if they can inject or modify Twig page content. This leads to exposure of sensitive information, potentially compromising administrative access. The CVSS 4.0 score is 6.9 (medium severity), reflecting network attack vector, low attack complexity, and partial user interaction required.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until an official fix is available, restrict page author permissions to prevent untrusted users from injecting Twig content that can access request URI objects containing credentials.
