Vendor/Project: Roundcube
Product: Webmail

Description

CVE-2026-114714 is a path traversal vulnerability in the squirrelmail_usercopy plugin of Roundcube Webmail. Versions before 1.6.20 and 1.7.x before 1.7.5 are affected. The vulnerability arises because the source path for file import is constructed from the login name without filtering out path separators, allowing an attacker to read files outside the intended directory. The issue was fixed by rejecting login names containing slashes.

Technical Analysis

Roundcube Webmail versions >=1.6.0 <1.6.20 and >=1.7.0 <1.7.5 contain a CWE-23 relative path traversal vulnerability in the squirrelmail_usercopy plugin. The vulnerability occurs when the file-based backend constructs the source path from the login name without sanitizing path separators. This allows a specially crafted login name containing slashes to cause files outside the configured squirrelmail_data_dir to be read and imported. The upstream fix rejects login names containing slashes, mitigating the vulnerability.

Potential Impact

An attacker with the ability to specify a login name can exploit this vulnerability to read files outside the intended data directory, potentially exposing sensitive information. The CVSS score of 5.3 reflects a medium severity with high confidentiality impact but no integrity or availability impact. Exploitation requires low privileges and no user interaction but has a high attack complexity.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade Roundcube Webmail to version 1.6.20 or later, or 1.7.5 or later, where the vulnerability is fixed by rejecting login names containing slashes. No other mitigations are indicated. Patch status is confirmed fixed in these versions.
