CVE-2026-115376: Improper Access Control in lxc incus
Description
Incus versions 7.0.1 before 7.0.2 and 7.2.0 before 7.5.0 contain an authorization bypass vulnerability. This flaw allows project-restricted clients to copy volumes by omitting the source.type parameter. Attackers can exploit this by sending crafted POST requests to the custom volumes endpoint with a chosen source.project, enabling them to copy and read volumes, snapshots, and configurations from other projects.

Technical Analysis
CVE-2026-115376 is an authorization bypass vulnerability in Incus affecting versions >=7.0.1 <7.0.2 and >=7.2.0 <7.5.0. The vulnerability arises because project-restricted clients can omit the source.type parameter when copying volumes, allowing them to specify a source.project arbitrarily. This enables unauthorized copying and reading of volumes, snapshots, and configurations belonging to other projects via crafted POST requests to the custom volumes endpoint.
Potential Impact
An attacker with project-restricted privileges can bypass access controls to copy and read data from other projects' volumes, snapshots, and configurations. This can lead to unauthorized data disclosure and potential compromise of project isolation within Incus environments.
Mitigation Recommendations
A fix is available in Incus versions 7.0.2 and 7.5.0 and later. Users should upgrade affected versions to these fixed releases to remediate the vulnerability.
