Published: 10/22/2026 (10/22/2026, 19:13:49 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: bytecodealliance
Product: wasmtime

Description

Wasmtime versions 46.0.0 before 48.0.4 and 49.0.0 before 49.0.2 have a denial-of-service vulnerability in the wasi:http implementation. Guests can specify a zero between-bytes-timeout request option that triggers a panic in the Tokio API, causing the host embedding Wasmtime to crash.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-115382 affects Wasmtime, a WebAssembly runtime by bytecodealliance. In versions >=46.0.0 <48.0.4 and >=49.0.0 <49.0.2, the wasi:http implementation improperly validates the specified quantity for the between-bytes-timeout request option. When a guest specifies a zero value, this value is forwarded directly to a Tokio API that panics on zero timeout, resulting in a denial-of-service by crashing the host embedding Wasmtime.

Potential Impact

An attacker controlling a guest WebAssembly module can cause the host process running Wasmtime to panic and crash, resulting in a denial-of-service condition. There is no indication of privilege escalation or data compromise from the provided information.

Mitigation Recommendations

Users should upgrade Wasmtime to versions 48.0.4 or later, or 49.0.2 or later, where this issue is fixed. Patch status is confirmed by the affected version ranges indicating fixed versions. No additional mitigations are specified.
