Published: 10/22/2026 (10/22/2026, 19:13:52 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: bytecodealliance
Product: wasmtime

Description

Wasmtime versions 46.0.0 before 48.0.4 and 49.0.0 before 49.0.2 contain a denial of service vulnerability in the wasmtime-wasi WASIp3 implementation. This flaw allows guests with mutable preopened directory access to cause the Unix host process to abort by invoking set-times or set-times-at with negative timestamps before the epoch, triggering an assertion failure that crashes the host.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-115385 is a denial of service vulnerability in the wasmtime-wasi WASIp3 implementation of Wasmtime. Specifically, guests that have mutable preopened directory access can call the set-times or set-times-at functions with negative seconds timestamps (before the Unix epoch). This input triggers an assertion failure in the host process, causing it to crash. The affected versions are Wasmtime 46.0.0 up to but not including 48.0.4, and 49.0.0 up to but not including 49.0.2.

Potential Impact

An attacker controlling a guest with mutable preopened directory access can cause the host Unix process running Wasmtime to crash, resulting in a denial of service condition. There is no indication of privilege escalation or code execution beyond the denial of service impact.

Mitigation Recommendations

A fix is available in Wasmtime versions 48.0.4 and 49.0.2 and later. Users should upgrade to these or later versions to remediate this vulnerability. Patch status is confirmed by the provided affected version ranges indicating fixed versions. No additional mitigation steps are specified.
