Published: 10/22/2026 (10/22/2026, 19:14:07 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: unclecode
Product: crawl4ai

Description

Crawl4AI versions from 0.7.0 up to but not including 0.9.5 contain a vulnerability involving inefficient regular expression complexity in the Docker API server. Authenticated API clients can submit specially crafted unbounded regular expressions in /crawl request bodies, causing catastrophic backtracking. This can freeze the entire server, including the /health endpoint, leading to denial of service.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-115508 describes an inefficient regular expression complexity vulnerability in unclecode's Crawl4AI Docker API server. Authenticated clients can supply unbounded regular expressions in the /crawl request body fields such as RegexExtractionStrategy.custom, RegexChunking.patterns, and schema regex fields JsonCss, JsonXPath, and JsonLxml. These expressions can trigger catastrophic backtracking, causing the server to freeze and become unresponsive, including the health check endpoint. The issue affects versions >=0.7.0 and <0.9.5.

Potential Impact

An attacker with authenticated API access can cause a denial of service by submitting crafted regex patterns that cause catastrophic backtracking, freezing the entire Crawl4AI server and preventing normal operation and health checks.

Mitigation Recommendations

No official patch or remediation is referenced in the provided data. Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, restrict authenticated API client access and avoid submitting untrusted regular expressions in /crawl requests.
