AI-suggested

Users should upgrade to rotki version 1.44.2 or later, where the key derivation vulnerability has been fixed. No other mitigation is required as the fix addresses the root cause.

Description

rotki versions prior to 1.44.2 use a weak key derivation method for premium sync backups, relying on a single unsalted SHA-256 hash of the user password. This vulnerability enables attackers who obtain backup data to perform GPU-accelerated offline brute-force attacks to guess passwords and decrypt sensitive information such as exchange API keys, secrets, wallet addresses, and transaction history. The issue is addressed in rotki version 1.44.2.
