AI-suggested
Until a fix is available, users should avoid running '/download model' commands with untrusted URLs containing encoded directory traversal sequences.
Description
Leon before commit 50df142 has a path traversal vulnerability in the getModelFileNameFromURL() function. This flaw allows attackers to write files outside the intended models directory by using percent-encoded '../' sequences in a crafted URL. Exploitation requires tricking a user into running a '/download model' command with the malicious URL. The vulnerability has a CVSS 4.0 base score of 6.9, indicating medium severity.
Impact
Successful exploitation allows an attacker to write arbitrary files to paths writable by the Leon application outside the intended models directory. This can lead to unauthorized file modification or code injection depending on the writable locations and application context. The vulnerability does not require privileges or authentication but does require user interaction. There are no known exploits in the wild at this time.
Summary
CVE-2026-116073 is a path traversal vulnerability in the Leon AI project affecting versions prior to commit 50df142. The vulnerability exists in the getModelFileNameFromURL() function, which fails to properly restrict pathname inputs. Attackers can exploit this by providing percent-encoded directory traversal sequences ('../') in a URL, causing the application to write files outside the designated models directory to arbitrary writable paths. This requires user interaction to trigger the '/download model' command with the crafted URL.
