A security update fixing this vulnerability is available from Red Hat as detailed in advisory RHSA-2026:36195. Users of affected versions (>=1.3.2 <=3.3.0) should apply the vendor-provided patches promptly. No additional mitigation steps are specified or required beyond applying the official fix.
Description
CVE-2026-11610 is a heap-based buffer overflow vulnerability in the SASL I/O layer of 389 Directory Server (389-ds-base). After a successful SASL bind with integrity protection, an authenticated attacker can send an oversized LDAP UNBIND packet that overflows a 512-byte heap buffer, causing a denial of service (server crash). This flaw affects versions from 1.3.2 through 3.3.0 and has existed since approximately 2013. It is exploitable by any authenticated user with a valid Kerberos ticket or service account in FreeIPA and Red Hat Identity Management deployments. A security update fixing this issue is available from Red Hat.
