Until an official fix is available, avoid exposing the vulnerable versions to untrusted API callers or restrict and validate the X-Request-Id header to prevent injection of attacker-controlled addresses.
Description
vLLM versions from 0.9.2 up to but not including 0.24.0 contain a server-side request forgery (SSRF) vulnerability. This flaw allows API callers to embed a decoded address in the X-Request-Id header, forcing the server to make outbound connections to attacker-controlled hosts. Exploitation can lead to leakage of NCCL unique_id and KV-cache tensors or cause denial of service by blocking worker processes.
Impact
An unauthenticated attacker can exploit this SSRF vulnerability to force outbound connections from the server to attacker-controlled hosts. This can result in leakage of sensitive internal data such as NCCL unique_id and KV-cache tensors, which may compromise confidentiality. Additionally, the attack can block worker processes, causing denial of service and impacting system availability. The CVSS 4.0 score is 8.8 (high severity), reflecting the network attack vector, no required privileges or user interaction, and high impact on confidentiality and low impact on availability.
Summary
CVE-2026-116176 is a server-side request forgery vulnerability in vLLM versions >=0.9.2 and <0.24.0. The vulnerability arises because the application processes the X-Request-Id header in a way that allows attackers to specify an address that the server will connect to. This can cause the P2pNcclConnector prefill worker to initiate a ZeroMQ connection to an attacker-controlled host, potentially leaking sensitive NCCL unique_id and KV-cache tensor data or blocking the worker, impacting availability.
