Until a fix is available, users should consider disabling the Page and Post Restriction plugin or restricting access to the REST API endpoints. Additionally, mitigating cross-origin requests by configuring appropriate CORS policies may reduce risk.

Description

The Page and Post Restriction WordPress plugin up to version 1.6.1 contains an authentication bypass vulnerability. This flaw allows unauthenticated attackers to read restricted REST API GET responses by exploiting improper re-authentication from the wordpress_logged_in cookie without verifying a REST nonce. An attacker can leverage cross-origin requests from a logged-in victim's browser to access private content, user profile data, and authorized comments without further victim interaction beyond visiting a malicious page.
