VulnerabilityCVE-2026-11832cvecve-2026-11832cwe-338
Published: Mon Jun 15 2026 (06/15/2026, 21:19:07 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: BIAFRA
Product: Dancer2::Plugin::Auth::OAuth

Description

Dancer2::Plugin::Auth::OAuth versions before 0.22 for Perl use a predictable nonce generated by applying an MD5 hash to the epoch time. This use of a cryptographically weak pseudo-random number generator (PRNG) results in predictable nonces, which can undermine the security of OAuth authentication flows.

Technical Analysis

The vulnerability identified as CVE-2026-11832 affects Dancer2::Plugin::Auth::OAuth versions prior to 0.22. The plugin generates nonces for OAuth authentication using an MD5 hash of the current epoch time, which is predictable and considered cryptographically weak (CWE-338). This predictable nonce generation can potentially allow attackers to guess or reproduce nonce values, weakening the security guarantees of the OAuth authentication process.

Potential Impact

The predictable nonce generation compromises the randomness expected in OAuth authentication nonces. This can lead to replay attacks or other authentication bypass scenarios where an attacker can predict or reuse nonce values. However, no known exploits in the wild have been reported for this vulnerability.

Mitigation Recommendations

No official patch or remediation level has been published yet. Users should upgrade to version 0.22 or later once available, as this version presumably addresses the nonce generation issue. Until a fix is released, consider implementing custom nonce generation using a secure cryptographic random number generator to replace the default behavior.
