AI-suggested

Red Hat has published an advisory for this vulnerability. Users should refer to the Red Hat advisory at https://access.redhat.com/security/cve/CVE-2026-118475 for the latest remediation guidance. Since exploitation requires user interaction and local access, limiting exposure by restricting untrusted image files and user privileges can reduce risk.

Description

CVE-2026-118475 is an out-of-bounds read vulnerability in Eye of GNOME on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7. It occurs when parsing a specially crafted PNG image with malformed color profile metadata, leading to reading beyond allocated buffer boundaries. This can cause the application to crash (Denial of Service) or potentially expose sensitive memory contents. Exploitation requires user interaction to open a malicious image in an interactive desktop session, limiting impact to the local user's permissions.
