Description

MariaDB Connector/J versions from 3.0.0 up to but excluding 3.3.7, 3.4.5, and 3.5.11 contain an encoding handling flaw. The connector incorrectly assumes result bytes are UTF-8 and does not properly reject changes to the character_set_results setting. This allows a malicious or compromised server or a man-in-the-middle attacker to alter the character set of returned data, causing application strings to differ from the actual bytes received. This mismatch can bypass application-side validation or escaping that relies on decoded string values. The issue is addressed in versions 3.3.7, 3.4.5, and 3.5.11.
