Users should avoid creating dummy users via the plugin's Tools page until a fix is available. Administrators should monitor plugin updates from the vendor for a security patch addressing this issue. As the vulnerability requires prior creation of dummy users, removing existing dummy accounts and disabling the plugin's dummy user functionality may reduce risk. Avoid exposing the registration form publicly if possible.

Description

UsersWP plugin for WordPress versions up to 1.2.78 contains an improper authentication vulnerability due to predictable passwords for built-in dummy user accounts. The shared password is derived from a hash partially exposed in a hidden form field accessible without authentication, allowing attackers to recover the password and log in as any dummy user. Exploitation requires prior creation of dummy users by an administrator. This can lead to unauthorized access and potential privilege escalation if dummy accounts have elevated roles.
