AI-suggested
Upgrade to CGI version 5.00 or later, where this vulnerability is fixed. Until the upgrade, applications should implement strict validation and sanitization of uploaded filenames to prevent directory traversal sequences from being used in file paths.
Description
CGI versions prior to 5.00 for Perl have a path traversal vulnerability where uploaded filenames are returned with any client-supplied path, including directory traversal sequences like ../ and Windows paths. This allows an attacker to cause the application to write files outside the intended directory if it saves uploads using the provided filename parameter without validation.
