Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-12462 is a use-after-free vulnerability in the Media component of Google Chrome versions before 149.0.7827.155. Exploitation requires that the attacker has already compromised the renderer process, after which they can execute arbitrary code inside the sandbox environment via a crafted HTML page. This vulnerability was publicly disclosed and fixed in Chrome version 149.0.7827.155. The vendor advisory confirms a stable channel update has been issued to remediate this issue.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation allows remote code execution inside the sandboxed renderer process, potentially enabling an attacker to run arbitrary code with the privileges of the sandboxed process. This could lead to further compromise depending on sandbox escape techniques, but the vulnerability itself is limited to code execution within the sandbox.

Mitigation Recommendations

A fixed version of Google Chrome (149.0.7827.155) has been released that addresses this vulnerability. Users and administrators should update to this version or later to remediate the issue. No additional mitigation steps are indicated by the vendor advisory.
