Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-12586 describes an improper authentication vulnerability (CWE-287) in the Lenxel WP WordPress theme up to version 1.0.31. The password-reset functionality fails to perform authorization or ownership checks and relies solely on CSRF nonce validation (CWE-352). This allows unauthenticated attackers to reset passwords for any user account, including administrators, leading to full account compromise.

Potential Impact

An attacker can reset the password of any user, including administrators, without authentication. This results in complete account takeover, potentially allowing full control over the affected WordPress site.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, restrict access to the password-reset functionality or disable the vulnerable theme. Monitor official Lenxel WP communications for updates.
