Technical Analysis

This vulnerability (CWE-926) in the ASUS Router Android app arises from improper export of application components, enabling a local third-party application to send crafted Intents that cause the ASUS Router app to open arbitrary URLs. The CVSS 4.0 score is 6.0 (medium), reflecting local attack vector with low complexity and no privileges required, but requiring user interaction. The vulnerability is published with no known exploits in the wild and no vendor-provided remediation level or patch information at this time.

Potential Impact

An attacker controlling a third-party app on the same device can cause the ASUS Router app to open arbitrary URLs. This could potentially lead to phishing or other social engineering attacks if the user interacts with the opened URL. The vulnerability does not allow privilege escalation or direct code execution within the ASUS Router app itself.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the ASUS Security Advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, users should avoid installing untrusted third-party applications on the same device as the ASUS Router app to reduce risk.
