Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: MongoDB
Product: MongoDB Server

Description

An authenticated user with low privileges may be able to perform unauthorized reads and writes on data protected by role-based query-level access controls, due to insufficient validation of certain client-supplied command parameters. The issue affects find, update, delete, and aggregate commands in non-apiStrict configurations.

Technical Analysis

This vulnerability (CVE-2026-13059) in MongoDB Server arises from insufficient validation of client-supplied parameters in role-based query-level access controls. Authenticated users with low privileges may exploit this to perform unauthorized read and write operations on data via find, update, delete, and aggregate commands when the server is configured without apiStrict mode. The issue affects versions 7.0, 8.0, 8.2.0, and 8.3.0. The CVSS 4.0 base score is 8.6, indicating high severity. No vendor advisory or patch information is currently available, and no known exploits in the wild have been reported.

Potential Impact

An attacker with valid low-privilege authentication can bypass intended role-based query-level access controls to read or modify protected data. This compromises data confidentiality and integrity within affected MongoDB Server instances configured without apiStrict mode. The vulnerability impacts critical database operations including find, update, delete, and aggregate commands.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, consider enabling apiStrict mode if feasible, as the vulnerability affects non-apiStrict configurations. Restrict authenticated user privileges carefully and monitor for unusual database activity. Follow MongoDB's official advisories for updates on patches or mitigations.
