Technical Analysis

The Royal Addons for Elementor WordPress plugin versions prior to 1.7.1066 do not enforce authorization checks when returning taxonomy term data. Specifically, the plugin fails to verify user capabilities or nonce tokens before responding to requests for taxonomy terms, enabling unauthenticated attackers to access names and IDs of terms from non-public taxonomies. This is classified as a CWE-862 Missing Authorization vulnerability and has a CVSS 3.1 base score of 5.3, indicating a medium severity impact focused on confidentiality loss without affecting integrity or availability.

Potential Impact

An attacker without authentication can disclose sensitive taxonomy term information that is intended to be non-public. This information disclosure could aid in further reconnaissance or targeted attacks but does not directly impact data integrity or system availability.

Mitigation Recommendations

No official patch or remediation level is currently confirmed. Users should monitor the vendor's advisory for updates and apply any forthcoming patches promptly. Until a fix is available, consider restricting access to the affected plugin or disabling it if feasible to prevent unauthorized information disclosure.
