CVE-2026-13757: Uncontrolled Recursion in Red Hat Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10

VulnerabilityCVE-2026-13757cvecve-2026-13757
Published: 06/29/2026 (06/29/2026, 18:44:24 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: Red Hat
Product: Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10

Description

A flaw was found in p11-kit. The RPC message attribute parsing functions p11_rpc_message_get_attribute() and p11_rpc_message_get_attribute_array_value() form a mutually-recursive call chain with no recursion depth limit when processing nested CKA_WRAP_TEMPLATE, CKA_UNWRAP_TEMPLATE, and CKA_DERIVE_TEMPLATE attributes. An unauthenticated attacker with local access to the p11-kit RPC Unix domain socket can send a specially crafted request with deeply nested template attributes, causing stack exhaustion and crashing the p11-kit server process and its dependent services.

Technical Analysis

The vulnerability exists in p11-kit where the functions p11_rpc_message_get_attribute() and p11_rpc_message_get_attribute_array_value() call each other recursively without a limit on recursion depth when processing nested CKA_WRAP_TEMPLATE, CKA_UNWRAP_TEMPLATE, and CKA_DERIVE_TEMPLATE attributes. An unauthenticated attacker with local access to the p11-kit RPC Unix domain socket can exploit this by sending a specially crafted request with deeply nested template attributes, leading to stack exhaustion and crashing the p11-kit server and its dependent services. Red Hat has issued security advisories and updated packages (p11-kit 0.26.4-1.hum1) to fix this issue.

Potential Impact

The vulnerability allows an unauthenticated local attacker to cause a denial of service by crashing the p11-kit server process through stack exhaustion. This impacts availability of the p11-kit service and any dependent services relying on it. There is no impact on confidentiality or integrity reported.

Mitigation Recommendations

Red Hat has released fixed packages for p11-kit version 0.26.4-1.hum1 that address CVE-2026-13757. Users should apply these updates to remediate the vulnerability. Patch status is confirmed by Red Hat advisories RHSA-2026:37469 and RHSA-2026:38342. No other mitigation or workaround is indicated.
