Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-14873 is a missing authorization vulnerability (CWE-862) in the Bulk Password Reset WordPress plugin by rubenw. The plugin fails to properly validate user identity before updating user details such as passwords. Authenticated attackers with subscriber-level privileges or above can change arbitrary users' email addresses and reset passwords to a known value configured by the plugin, enabling full account takeover of affected sites. This affects all versions up to and including 1.3.3.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation allows an authenticated user with low privileges to escalate their access by resetting passwords of arbitrary users, including administrators. This results in full account takeover, compromising confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the WordPress site.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, restrict plugin usage to trusted users only or disable the plugin to prevent exploitation.
