Technical Analysis

This vulnerability in GPAC 26.03-DEV impacts the MP4Box component, specifically the vobsub_read_idx function in /src/media_tools/vobsub.c. Manipulating the num_langs argument can cause an out-of-bounds read, potentially leading to information disclosure or application instability. Exploitation requires local privileges and no user interaction. Although a patch exists (commit 532097084729a936bcdf6a27c41003f3bd7dc3ff) and two commits were applied to fix the issue, the vendor advisory does not explicitly confirm the remediation status.

Potential Impact

An attacker with local access can trigger an out-of-bounds read, which may lead to application crashes or unintended information disclosure. The CVSS score of 4.8 reflects a medium severity with low attack complexity and no user interaction required. There is no evidence of known exploits in the wild at this time.

Mitigation Recommendations

A patch addressing this vulnerability has been created and is referenced by commit 532097084729a936bcdf6a27c41003f3bd7dc3ff. It is recommended to apply this patch to resolve the issue. Since the vendor advisory does not explicitly confirm the patch availability or remediation level, users should verify with the official GPAC source or repository for the latest fix and apply it accordingly.
