Technical Analysis

The vulnerability CVE-2026-15195 affects apidevtools json-schema-ref-parser versions 15.3.0 through 15.3.5. It arises from insufficient control over modifications to object prototype attributes in the functions Refs.set and Pointer.set within lib/pointer.ts. This can lead to unintended prototype pollution, which attackers can exploit remotely. The problem is resolved by upgrading to version 15.3.6, which includes a patch identified by commit a786bc6afc3674f650496472ee93d5cf74c4bd84.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation allows remote attackers to manipulate object prototype attributes improperly, potentially leading to prototype pollution-related issues. The CVSS 4.0 score of 5.3 indicates a medium impact with network attack vector, low complexity, no user interaction, and limited confidentiality, integrity, and availability impacts.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade the apidevtools json-schema-ref-parser library to version 15.3.6 or later, which contains the official fix for this vulnerability. No other mitigation is indicated or required.
