Technical Analysis

This vulnerability in MyEMS up to version 6.4.0 allows remote attackers to perform cross-site scripting via manipulation of the new_values['data'] argument in the on_post function of the myems-api/core/svg.py file in the Admin Backend component. The vulnerability enables injection of malicious scripts due to insufficient input sanitization. The issue has been publicly disclosed with an exploit available. The vendor fixed the vulnerability in version 6.5.0, identified by patch 4a97edfbd786c779d0322054833b21ddf54d5b06.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability could allow an attacker to execute arbitrary scripts in the context of the affected application, potentially leading to session hijacking, defacement, or other malicious actions within the scope of the Admin Backend. The CVSS score of 4.8 reflects a medium impact with network attack vector and low integrity impact.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade MyEMS to version 6.5.0 or later to apply the official fix for this vulnerability. This upgrade addresses the cross-site scripting issue in the Admin Backend component. No additional mitigation steps are required if the upgrade is applied.
