Technical Analysis

This vulnerability involves a buffer overflow in the TRENDnet TEW-821DAP device firmware version 1.12B01. The issue is located in the function sub_41EC14 of the /goform/tools_nslookup component, where improper handling of the nslookup_target argument allows a remote attacker to cause a buffer overflow. The vendor has stated that the affected product is no longer supported (EOL), and they cannot confirm the vulnerability for other versions. No official fix or patch has been provided.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability could allow a remote attacker to cause a buffer overflow, potentially leading to denial of service or arbitrary code execution on the affected device. Given the high CVSS score (8.7) and the remote attack vector with no user interaction required, the impact is significant. However, the affected product is end-of-life and unsupported, which limits vendor response and official remediation options.

Mitigation Recommendations

No official patch or remediation is available from the vendor due to the product being end-of-life. Users should consider discontinuing use of the affected device or isolating it from untrusted networks to reduce exposure. Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for any updates or alternative mitigations if available.
