Published: 07/20/2026 (07/20/2026, 10:36:03 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: Red Hat
Product: Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10

Description

A vulnerability was found in the network packet de-fragmentation engine of kronosnet (Version affected <= 1.34). The internal reassembly code does not properly validate sequence numbers of incoming payload fragments. An attacker can exploit this lack of verification by transmitting malformed packets with corrupted sequence parameters. Under specific conditions, this forces the packet processing layer to parse data outside the designated bounds of the internal memory structures, causing an out-of-bounds memory access or heap corruption. This behavior can result in sudden application crashes or system instability.

Technical Analysis

The kronosnet network packet de-fragmentation engine in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10 versions up to 1.34 does not properly validate sequence numbers of incoming payload fragments. An attacker can send malformed packets with corrupted sequence parameters, causing the packet processing layer to access memory outside the intended bounds. This out-of-bounds write can lead to heap corruption and potentially cause application crashes or system instability. The vulnerability has a CVSS 3.1 base score of 6.5 (AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:L/A:H). The vendor advisory does not provide explicit patch or remediation details at this time.

Potential Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability can result in denial of service through application crashes or system instability due to out-of-bounds memory writes and heap corruption. There is no indication of confidentiality or integrity compromise beyond limited impact to system availability. No known exploits are reported in the wild.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the Red Hat advisory at https://access.redhat.com/security/cve/CVE-2026-15813 for current remediation guidance. Until an official fix is released, consider restricting exposure of affected systems to untrusted networks to reduce risk.
