Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-15930 is a missing authorization vulnerability (CWE-862) in the Simple Membership WordPress plugin versions prior to 4.7.8. The plugin does not properly check whether user creation failed during registration before using the returned user ID to update account information. This logic flaw permits unauthenticated attackers to overwrite the primary administrator's account details, such as the email address, which can then be exploited to take over the administrator account through the password reset functionality.

Potential Impact

An unauthenticated attacker can overwrite the primary administrator's account data, including the email address, which allows them to take control of the administrator account via the password reset flow. This leads to a full compromise of the administrator privileges within the affected WordPress site.

Mitigation Recommendations

No official patch or remediation level is currently confirmed. Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, restrict access to the registration functionality or monitor for suspicious account changes related to the administrator account.
