Technical Analysis

The vulnerability in RobinHerbots Inputmask affects the functions extendDefaults, extendDefinitions, and extendAliases within the internal deep merge helper (lib/dependencyLibs/extend.js). These functions allow improper modification of object prototype attributes, which can lead to prototype pollution. The issue exists in all versions up to and including 5.0.9. The vulnerability can be triggered remotely and does not require user interaction or elevated privileges. The vendor has not yet responded with a fix or advisory.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation could allow an attacker to manipulate object prototype attributes, potentially leading to unexpected behavior or security issues in applications using the vulnerable Inputmask versions. The CVSS 4.0 base score is 5.3 (medium), indicating limited but notable impact. There are no known exploits in the wild at this time.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Since no official fix or temporary mitigation has been announced, users should monitor for updates from RobinHerbots. Until a patch is available, consider avoiding use of affected versions or implementing application-level protections against prototype pollution if feasible.
