Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-16289 identifies a missing authorization vulnerability (CWE-862) in the ProfileGrid WordPress plugin prior to version 6.0.0.0. The plugin fails to verify user permissions when displaying pending membership requests for groups. Consequently, any authenticated user can access sensitive information about pending group members, including their names and request dates, regardless of group privacy settings.

Potential Impact

The vulnerability leads to unauthorized disclosure of pending membership request information. Attackers with any authenticated account can enumerate users requesting to join groups, potentially exposing user identities and membership interest in private groups. There is no indication of privilege escalation or direct code execution from this issue.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until an official fix is available, restrict authenticated user roles or limit access to group membership management features as a temporary measure.
