Technical Analysis
This vulnerability (CWE-73) affects TeamViewer Full Client, Host, QuickSupport, and Portable versions prior to 15.81.5. An authenticated remote session participant can exploit improper neutralization of path traversal sequences to write files outside intended directories on the local system. The attack vector includes file transfer or virtual file clipboard mechanisms. Successful exploitation may allow arbitrary file write and potentially execution of code with the privileges of the user running TeamViewer.
Potential Impact
An attacker with authenticated remote session access can write files to arbitrary locations on the local file system, potentially leading to arbitrary code execution with the privileges of the affected user. This can compromise system integrity and confidentiality.
Mitigation Recommendations
Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. No official fix or patch information is currently available. Until a patch is released, restrict remote session participants to trusted users only and monitor remote session activities closely.
