VulnerabilityCVE-2026-16547cvecve-2026-16547cwe-284
Published: 08/04/2026 (08/04/2026, 06:00:13 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Product: REST API Log

Description

The REST API Log WordPress plugin before version 1.7.1 contains an improper access control vulnerability. The plugin's log download feature uses tokens that are not bound to specific log entries and does not verify the requester's capabilities. This flaw allows unauthenticated users who possess any valid token to download REST API request and response logs, which may include sensitive information such as credentials, authentication tokens, or private content.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-16547 describes an improper access control vulnerability (CWE-284) in the REST API Log WordPress plugin versions prior to 1.7.1. The vulnerability arises because the token protecting the log download feature is not tied to the specific log entry requested, and the plugin fails to check the requester's permissions. Consequently, an unauthenticated attacker with any valid token can access and download logs containing potentially sensitive REST API request and response data.

Potential Impact

An attacker can obtain sensitive information including credentials, authentication tokens, or private content by downloading REST API logs without authentication or proper authorization. This exposure could lead to further compromise of the affected WordPress site or its users if exploited.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Since the vulnerability affects versions before 1.7.1, upgrading to version 1.7.1 or later (once confirmed) is recommended. Until an official fix is available, restrict access to the log download feature and monitor for unauthorized access attempts.
