Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-16561 is a missing authorization vulnerability (CWE-862) in the Sunshine Photo Cart WordPress plugin prior to version 3.6.12. The vulnerability arises because the plugin fails to enforce access control on a specific AJAX action, enabling unauthenticated attackers to retrieve comments associated with images in galleries that are intended to be private or access-restricted. This exposure could lead to unauthorized disclosure of sensitive user-generated content.

Potential Impact

Unauthorized users can access comments on images in private or restricted galleries, potentially exposing sensitive or confidential information that was intended to be protected by access controls.

Mitigation Recommendations

No official patch or remediation guidance is currently available. Users should monitor the vendor's advisory for updates and apply any forthcoming official fixes promptly. Until a fix is released, consider restricting access to the affected AJAX endpoint via other means such as web application firewall rules or disabling the plugin if feasible.
