Published: 07/28/2026 (07/28/2026, 11:32:47 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: quantumcloud
Product: WPBot – AI ChatBot for Live Support, Lead Generation, AI Services

Description

The Chatbot plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Missing Authorization in versions up to, and including, 8.5.9 via the wpcs_send_email() AJAX handler. This is due to the wpcs_send_email() function being registered on both wp_ajax_wpcs_send_email and wp_ajax_nopriv_wpcs_send_email with no nonce verification, capability check, or rate limiting, while forwarding attacker-controlled recipient, subject, and body directly to wp_mail(). This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to send arbitrary emails to any recipient from the site's domain, enabling spam, phishing, and abuse that can lead to the site's IP/domain being blacklisted.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-16774 describes a missing authorization vulnerability (CWE-862) in the quantumcloud WPBot – AI ChatBot for Live Support, Lead Generation, AI Services WordPress plugin. The wpcs_send_email() function is exposed via both authenticated and unauthenticated AJAX actions (wp_ajax_wpcs_send_email and wp_ajax_nopriv_wpcs_send_email) without nonce verification or capability checks. This allows unauthenticated attackers to send arbitrary emails by controlling recipient, subject, and body parameters forwarded directly to wp_mail(). This flaw enables abuse such as spam and phishing originating from the vulnerable site.

Potential Impact

Unauthenticated attackers can exploit this vulnerability to send arbitrary emails from the affected WordPress site's domain. This can facilitate spam campaigns, phishing attacks, and other email-based abuse. Such misuse risks the site's IP address and domain being blacklisted by email providers and spam filters, potentially disrupting legitimate email communications and damaging the site's reputation.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, restrict access to the wpcs_send_email AJAX endpoint if possible, or disable the plugin temporarily to prevent abuse. Monitor for plugin updates from quantumcloud addressing this vulnerability.
