Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-16930 is a missing authorization vulnerability (CWE-862) in IBM Power Systems Firmware affecting versions FW1120.00, FW1110.00 through FW1110.30, and FW1060.00 through FW1060.80. The flaw exists in the interface between the Baseboard Management Controller (BMC)/Flexible Service Processor (FSP) and the host system. An attacker who already has service account or root access to the BMC/FSP can leverage this vulnerability to execute arbitrary code on the host system, gaining full control over the host and all hosted partitions. This results in a high-severity impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the affected systems.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation allows an attacker with elevated access to the BMC/FSP to execute arbitrary code on the host system, leading to complete compromise of the host and all hosted partitions. This affects confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the system.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. No official fix or temporary mitigation has been documented at this time.
