Product: Power Systems Firmware

Description

CVE-2026-16933 is an integer overflow or wraparound vulnerability in IBM Power Systems Firmware affecting multiple firmware versions. It exists in the interface between the BMC/FSP and the host system. An attacker with service or root access to the BMC/FSP can exploit this flaw to read and write arbitrary host system memory, gaining full control over the host and all hosted partitions. This results in a critical impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability.

Technical Analysis

IBM Power Systems Firmware versions FW1120.00, FW1110.00 through FW1110.30, FW1060.00 through FW1060.80, FW950.00 through FW950.H2, OP940.00 through OP940.a1 (Power9), and OP940.00 through OP940.81 (Power HMC) contain an integer overflow or wraparound vulnerability (CWE-190) in the interface between the BMC/FSP and the host system. An attacker with service or root privileges on the BMC/FSP can exploit this vulnerability to read and write arbitrary regions of host system memory, resulting in full control over the host system and all hosted partitions. The CVSS 3.1 base score is 8.2, reflecting high severity with impacts on confidentiality, integrity, and availability.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation allows an attacker with high privileges on the BMC/FSP to gain full control over the host system and all hosted partitions by reading and writing arbitrary host memory. This compromises confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the affected systems.

Mitigation Recommendations

No patch or remediation information is provided in the available data. Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the IBM vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, restrict access to the BMC/FSP interfaces to trusted administrators only to reduce risk.
