Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-17216 is an integer overflow or wraparound vulnerability (CWE-190) affecting IBM i versions 7.3 through 7.6. The flaw occurs when processing DRDA large-object headers, allowing a remote attacker to trigger a denial of service condition by exploiting the integer error. The CVSS 3.1 base score is 5.3, reflecting a medium severity with network attack vector, no privileges required, and no user interaction needed. There is no indication of confidentiality or integrity impact. No official remediation or patch information is currently available.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation results in denial of service, causing system unavailability. There is no impact on confidentiality or integrity. The attack can be performed remotely without authentication or user interaction.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, monitor for unusual service disruptions related to DRDA large-object processing and consider limiting exposure of affected IBM i systems to untrusted networks.
