CVE-2026-17582: CWE-89 Improper Neutralization of Special Elements used in an SQL Command ('SQL Injection') in quantumcloud Slider Hero with Video Background, Animation

Published: 08/16/2026 (08/16/2026, 05:27:30 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: quantumcloud
Product: Slider Hero with Video Background, Animation

Description

The Slider Hero plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to second-order SQL Injection in versions up to, and including, 9.1.7 via the qcld_sliderhero_duplicate() function. Slide data (description, title, btn, btn2, image_link, custom, etc.) is stored safely via $wpdb->update() with %s placeholders in the qchero_save_image AJAX handler, but when an administrator triggers the 'heroduplicateslider' task, qcld_sliderhero_duplicate() re-reads every slide column and concatenates the raw values directly into an INSERT VALUES tuple that is then executed with $wpdb->query() — with no $wpdb->prepare(), esc_sql(), or _real_escape_string in between. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with administrator-level access and above, to append additional SQL queries into already existing queries that can be used to extract sensitive information from the database.

Technical Analysis

The Slider Hero plugin for WordPress (up to version 9.1.7) is vulnerable to a second-order SQL Injection via the qcld_sliderhero_duplicate() function. Although slide data is initially stored safely using parameterized queries, the duplication function re-reads slide data and concatenates raw values directly into an SQL INSERT statement executed with $wpdb->query() without any sanitization or preparation. This enables authenticated users with administrator privileges to append malicious SQL commands, potentially extracting sensitive database information.

Potential Impact

An attacker with administrator-level access can exploit this vulnerability to execute arbitrary SQL queries on the database, leading to unauthorized disclosure of sensitive information. The vulnerability does not allow privilege escalation or denial of service but compromises data confidentiality.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until an official fix is available, restrict administrator access to trusted users only and monitor for suspicious activity related to the 'heroduplicateslider' task. Avoid using vulnerable versions if possible.
