Published: 08/07/2026 (08/07/2026, 16:07:43 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: Sonatype
Product: Nexus Repository 3

Description

Nexus Repository 3 CE/Pro versions 3.0.0 through 3.94.x contain an incorrect authorization vulnerability (CWE-863) in the repository-creation user interface. An individual user account holding a delegated repository-admin privilege scoped to a specific repository format could create a repository of a different, unauthorized format, because authorization was checked against one request field while a separate, attacker-controlled field determined the repository format actually created. This does not affect the anonymous user, which cannot hold this privilege by default. Fixed in version 3.95.0.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-17594 is an incorrect authorization vulnerability in Sonatype Nexus Repository 3 CE/Pro versions 3.0.0 through before 3.95.0. The flaw occurs because authorization is checked against one request field while the repository format is determined by a separate, attacker-controlled field. This allows a user with delegated repository-admin privileges limited to a specific repository format to create repositories of other, unauthorized formats. Anonymous users are not affected as they cannot hold this privilege by default. The vulnerability is fixed in version 3.95.0.

Potential Impact

An attacker with delegated repository-admin privileges scoped to a specific repository format can create repositories of unauthorized formats, potentially bypassing intended access controls. This could lead to unauthorized repository creation and associated risks depending on repository format capabilities. Anonymous users are not affected.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade to Nexus Repository 3 version 3.95.0 or later, where this vulnerability is fixed. No other official remediation or temporary fixes are documented. Patch status is confirmed by the vendor advisory stating the fix in 3.95.0.
