Technical Analysis

This vulnerability involves a use-after-free condition in the ANGLE graphics engine within Google Chrome on Android. An attacker with control over the renderer process could exploit this flaw to perform a sandbox escape, increasing their privileges beyond the renderer sandbox. The vulnerability is addressed in Chrome version 151.0.7922.72. The CVSS 3.1 vector indicates network attack vector, high attack complexity, no privileges required, user interaction required, scope changed, and low impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability.

Potential Impact

A successful exploit could allow an attacker who has compromised the renderer process to escape the sandbox, potentially leading to greater control over the affected device. The impact is rated medium, reflecting limited confidentiality, integrity, and availability impacts but a significant security boundary bypass.

Mitigation Recommendations

Users should update Google Chrome on Android to version 151.0.7922.72 or later, where this vulnerability is fixed. Since the vendor advisory indicates the fix is included in this version, applying this update fully mitigates the issue. No additional mitigations are specified by the vendor.
