Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-18186 is a CWE-134 (Use of Externally-Controlled Format String) vulnerability in ASUSTOR Inc.'s ADM FTP Backup feature. The vulnerability occurs because user-controlled backup configuration data is stored in task logs and later processed through an unsafe format string operation, allowing an authenticated attacker to potentially disclose memory contents or cause a denial of service in the CGI process handling the logs. Affected versions include ADM 4.1.0 through 4.3.3.RUN1 and 5.0.0 through 5.1.3.RI81. No official patch or remediation level has been provided as of the publication date.

Potential Impact

An authenticated attacker can exploit this vulnerability to disclose sensitive memory information or cause a denial of service condition in the affected CGI process, potentially disrupting service availability or leaking information that could aid further attacks.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until an official fix is available, restrict access to the FTP Backup feature to trusted users only and monitor for unusual activity related to task logs. Avoid exposing the affected CGI process to untrusted networks.
