CVE-2026-18661: CWE-863
Description
In Eclipse Jetty, across various versions of `jetty-annotations`, and `jetty-eeN-annotations`, the Jakarta Spec authoritative url-pattern rules for mixed `@ServletSecurity` annotation, and `web.xml` defined `security-constraint` on the same `url-pattern` were not being applied if the `web.xml` had more than 1 `url-pattern` for a servlet, and had a `security-constraint` applying to only some of those `url-pattern` definitions.

Technical Analysis
This vulnerability in Eclipse Jetty's jetty-annotations and jetty-eeN-annotations components involves incorrect application of Jakarta Spec authoritative url-pattern rules. Specifically, when a servlet is defined with multiple url-patterns in web.xml and security constraints apply to only some of these patterns, the combined security rules from @ServletSecurity annotations and web.xml constraints are not properly enforced. This can lead to partial bypass of intended security constraints on certain url-patterns within the same servlet.
Potential Impact
The vulnerability allows for potential weakening of security constraints on some url-patterns of a servlet when multiple url-patterns are defined and only some have security constraints. This could lead to unauthorized access or reduced protection on affected url-patterns. The CVSS 4.0 score is 8.8 (high severity), indicating a significant risk if exploited. No known exploits are reported in the wild.
Mitigation Recommendations
No explicit patch or remediation information is provided in the input data. Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, carefully review servlet url-pattern definitions and security constraints to avoid partial application of security rules.
