CVE-2026-18744: CWE-639: Authorization Bypass Through User-Controlled Key in CERT/CC VINCE

Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: CERT/CC
Product: VINCE

Description

CVE-2026-18744 is an authorization bypass vulnerability in CERT/CC VINCE that allows any authenticated case participant to access another vendor's CaseStatement and per-vulnerability CaseMemberStatus by supplying that member's ID. The flaw arises because the function test_func only verifies if the case belongs to the user (_is_my_case) but does not verify ownership of the member ID provided. This bypasses share_status controls and leaks embargoed vendor information, including affected/not-affected status and statement text across tenants.

Technical Analysis

This vulnerability (CWE-639) in CERT/CC VINCE involves improper authorization checks where an authenticated user can supply another member's ID to retrieve sensitive information such as CaseStatement and CaseMemberStatus belonging to other vendors. The function test_func fails to verify ownership of the member ID, only checking if the case is associated with the user, enabling cross-tenant data leakage of embargoed vendor statuses and statements.

Potential Impact

The vulnerability allows unauthorized disclosure of sensitive and embargoed information about vendors, including their affected or not-affected status and detailed statement texts. This cross-tenant data leakage compromises confidentiality of vendor-specific case data within the VINCE system.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until an official fix is available, restrict access to authenticated case participants carefully and monitor for unauthorized access attempts involving member ID parameters.
