Technical Analysis

The vulnerability identified as CVE-2026-18953 involves improper limitation of a pathname to a restricted directory (CWE-22) in the get_resource tool within aws-transform-mcp-server versions 0.1.0 through 0.1.4. Exploitation can lead to arbitrary file writes outside the designated working directory by manipulating the savePath parameter. This could impact confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the system. AWS manages this as a cloud service and has provided an upgrade path to version 0.1.5 or later to remediate the issue.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation can result in high impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability due to arbitrary file writes outside the intended directory. This could allow attackers to overwrite critical files or place malicious files, potentially leading to system compromise or denial of service.

Mitigation Recommendations

Users should upgrade aws-transform-mcp-server to version 0.1.5 or later to remediate this vulnerability. Since this is a cloud service managed by AWS, the vendor handles remediation on their side as well. Check the AWS security bulletin at https://aws.amazon.com/security/security-bulletins/2026-075-aws/ for the latest guidance and confirmation of patch status.
