CVE-2026-19579: CWE-639 Authorization bypass through User-Controlled key in Grokability Snipe-IT

VulnerabilityCVE-2026-19579cvecve-2026-19579cwe-639cwe-807
Published: 08/11/2026 (08/11/2026, 20:25:02 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: Grokability
Product: Snipe-IT

Description

Snipe-IT before 8.6.0 contains an authorization bypass (insecure direct object reference) in the asset checkout-request cancellation endpoint. The cancel_by_admin and requestingUser values are read from user-controlled URL path segments and used without a server-side authorization check, so any authenticated, low-privileged user can supply a non-empty cancel_by_admin value to bypass the request-ownership check and cancel another user's pending checkout request. Because asset and user identifiers are sequential integers, an attacker can enumerate them to cancel every pending checkout request, disrupting the asset-request workflow. This is fixed in Snipe-IT 8.6.0.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-19579 is an authorization bypass vulnerability (CWE-639) in Grokability's Snipe-IT before version 8.6.0. The vulnerability exists in the asset checkout-request cancellation endpoint where the cancel_by_admin and requestingUser values are taken from user-controlled URL path segments and used without verifying authorization on the server side. This allows any authenticated user with low privileges to supply a non-empty cancel_by_admin parameter to bypass ownership checks and cancel other users' pending checkout requests. Since asset and user IDs are sequential integers, an attacker can enumerate these identifiers to cancel all pending requests, disrupting normal asset management workflows. The vulnerability is fixed in Snipe-IT 8.6.0.

Potential Impact

An attacker with low-level authenticated access can cancel other users' pending asset checkout requests without proper authorization. This can disrupt the asset checkout workflow by invalidating legitimate requests, potentially causing operational inconvenience or denial of service in asset management processes. There is no indication of data disclosure or privilege escalation beyond request cancellation.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade to Snipe-IT version 8.6.0 or later, where this authorization bypass vulnerability is fixed. No other mitigations are indicated. Patch status is confirmed fixed in 8.6.0.
