Technical Analysis

This vulnerability involves improper handling of insufficient permissions or privileges (CWE-280) in the Imagination Technologies Graphics DDK. Specifically, software running as a non-privileged user may exploit improper GPU memory reservation protections to conduct GPU system calls that grant write permissions to memory and files that should be read-only. This can lead to unauthorized modification of user-mode memory and files, potentially compromising confidentiality, integrity, and availability of data processed by the GPU.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation allows a non-privileged user to gain write access to memory and files that are intended to be read-only, resulting in high impact to confidentiality and integrity, and low impact to availability. This could enable unauthorized data modification or code execution within the context of the GPU driver environment.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. No official fix or temporary mitigation has been published by Imagination Technologies at this time.
